The event was open to the community and provided access to guidance and information for those with questions on how to seek care for concerns regarding breast cancer. Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages joined in the walk and commemorated Dr. Elsy Mecklembourg for her contributions to public health as a professor and a community health advocate.
Dr Elsy Mecklembourg, along with being a public health educator, founded EMG Health Communications a non-profit professional organization that promotes physical and mental health education in the community.
The inaugural Dr. Elsy Mecklembourg-Guibert Memorial Breast Cancer Walk stands to pay tribute to Dr. Mecklembourg-Guibert for her hard-fought battle against her own health ailments and honors those still confronting health struggles. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month this event served as a continued effort to raise awareness and promote early detection and treatment of the disease.
