ALBANY, NY– The Chair of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus, Assemblymember Michaelle C. Solages (D-Elmont), released the following statement in response to a leaked draft of an apparent Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade:
“Reproductive health care decisions should be left to a woman and her doctor, not political actors masquerading as jurists. Restrictive abortion laws are yet another way that health care access is denied to the working class. The ramifications of restricting reproductive health care, including abortions, will fall particularly on marginalized and poor communities. Make no mistake, abortion access is a gender and racial justice issue. The BPHA Caucus stands committed to ensuring that women in New York State have access to the reproductive health care they need, without burden, obstacles, or stigma.”
